Famous Person In History Projects

Thanks to everyone that came to our Celebration of Learning last night.  It was great to see so many families here. The students worked hard on their projects and should be proud of their finished projects.  Below are a few pictures.  Hope everyone has a wonderful and healthy break!

Bridges Unit

During the past couple of months students in the fifth/sixth grades have participated in a cooperative unit on bridges.  We learned about the various bridge types, explored building bridges out of paper, and finally constructed wooden truss bridges.  During the final bridge construction, each team was given a budget to work with, had to create a blueprint of their bridge design, and then construct the bridge.  Late in January, students were able to test their bridges.  Below are a few photos from our day of testing.

January Highlights

Nature Journaling
By Cara

On Friday, January 20th, 2017 our class went outside to look for tracks in the snow. Karen (our nature journaling teacher) gave us papers with different tracks on them. She showed us how each animal moves and the formation the tracks make. Then we went outside. The first tracks we found were fox tracks. We identified them because they were almost in a straight line and by the size. On the paper there was a ruler so we could figure out how big they were.
After that, we set out looking for more tracks. We found deer tracks, coyote tracks, and ever a mysterious track. This track was rectangular but the center was filled in with snow. Not like any other of the tracks. A couple of students found deer tracks that lead to a half eaten pumpkin that was still out there from the younger kids ECO class. We recorded the tracks we found and shared them when we came inside. We had a lot of fun looking for tracks in the woods!
